Network Optimatization for Interactive Telemedicine Services
In medical environment, there is a fundamental demand to transfer and store large volumes of image data generated by modern medical devices and interactive telemedicine services. Currently the majority of the medical facilities spread around the country have quite limited Internet access, so these facilities require additional observation and network optimization for transfer of high load traffic generated by medical applications such as Computed Radiography or Computed Tomography. That is why we focused our work on this issue and this paper presents our result – optimal solution to transfer large volumes of image date over low-capacity links with regarding to minimum response-times. First we statistically described the traffic generated by the corresponding medical equipment and then evaluated the behaviour of these mathematical models in the OPNET Modeler discrete event simulation environment.
Integration of Real Network Components into OPNET Modeler Co-simulation Process
The OPNET Modeler is a simulation environment enables modeling of large-scale networks with in detail defined parameters. This paper is focused on the possibility to communicate with external systems and applications that this environment offers. Due to this we are able to interconnect simulation environment with real network system and gain the simulation results more accurate and in accordance with the reality. We created communication model composed from network scenario created in the OPNET Modeler, C/C++ external application and Cisco router. For this purpose we implemented the SNMP protocol into the OPNET Modeler. This model enables data exchange between external network component and work station in OPNET Modeler scenario. This model is very useful especially in the situation when you need to include a real network device into simulation process, because the pure simulation environment is not quite sufficient.
Management of Network Devices from OPNET Modeler Simulation Environment
The Simple Network Management Protocol is themain protocol for monitoring and configuring network devices, but it is not the only way of utilizing this protocol. With the helpof this tool, additional information about network devices can beobtained. This information can be used, for example, in theQuality of Service support system that is described in this paper. In order to evaluate this system we used the OPNET Modelersimulation environment. The usage of simulation tools within thedevelopment of modern network technologies and protocols isvery frequent. But sometimes the pure simulation environment isnot quite sufficient and we need to combine it with real systems. Therefore we took advantage of one feature of OPNET Modelerand created a simulation scenario that enables interaction of theOPNET Modeler with real network components. For this purposewe...
